Bomba, police to the rescue as mother, sons take unplanned ‘detour’

BINTULU, July 8: A 36-year old woman and her two sons were found safe this morning, half-an-hour after they were reported missing while trekking at Tumbina Park in Tanjung Batu.

Tan Piaw Hua and her sons Leonhard, 9, and Leonard, 7, entered the park for recreational activities around 8am, but lost their bearings on their way out.

According to Fire and Rescue Department’s operation centre (PGO), they received the emergency call from Bintulu fire station at 9.47am.

Upon realising they had lost their way, Tan managed to call her sister, who happens to be a police officer, for help.

Tan’s sister then called the police who later informed PGO.

Four firefighters headed by Winston Tan from Bintulu fire station together with four police personnel were despatched to the site to conduct the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The SAR team trekked for about 2km before they found the victims safe and unharmed at 10.20am. — DayakDaily
