Body of missing man found floating at Kuching Water Barrage

The body of missing man was brought onto the boat.

KUCHING, Sept 25: The body of a 23-year-old man, who was reported missing after falling  from a ship at Sungai Sarawak, was found floating in front of the Kuching Water Barrage this morning.

The incident happened on Wednesday (Sept 23) when the ship was heading towards the Kuching Barrage from Sheng Jetty.


The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was contacted at 8.48 am when a member of the public saw the body floating at the entrance of the Kuching Water Barrage.

According to a statement from the State Bomba Operation Centre, the Bomba team later went to the scene and retrieved the body.

The body was later brought to the Bomba Search and Rescue (SAR) post and the identity of the man had been confirmed by the supervisor.

During the incident, the man was believed to have fallen into the river and the deceased colleague’s attempted to save him by throwing a float on him but failed. The deceased later went missing and a SAR operation was activated.

The SAR operation ended at 9.30 am today and Bomba personnel returned to their station. -DayakDaily
