TANJUNG MANIS, Sept 10: The body of an Indonesian worker who reportedly fell from a fishing vessel three days ago was found floating by fishermen at Sg Barong this morning.
Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement said their Tanjung Manis fire station control room received a call from Kg Rajang fisherman that they found a body at 10.18am.
“Firefighters who were part of the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation team immediately proceed to the said location and found the floating body before bringing it back to their control post at 10.50am.
Upon arrival, the deceased’s room mate identified only as Taruji confirmed that the body was his missing friend Ikbal Ramadan, 27,” SAR commanding officer Khairul Basri Sulaiman disclosed.
The identification was made based on the deceased’s body size, shirt and pants.
It was earlier reported that Ikbal had fell from a fishing vessel belonging to Fieldmart Company Sdn Bhd.
The ship departed from Fisheries Development Authorities (LKIM) Tanjung Manis jetty on Sept 8, at 9.45am and heading towards northeast up to as far as 18 nautical miles.
However, fellow workers in the ship only noticed Ikbal’s disappearance at 3pm that day.
This morning’s SAR operations started at 7.30am, involving firefighters, police, civil defence, fisheries and marine police. They were divided into three sectors.—DayakDaily
