Bintulu Port records best performance ever with tonnage increasing 7.6 pct to 50.73 mln tonnes in 2022

BINTULU, Feb 28: Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) recorded its best performance ever in the history of Bintulu Port last year which saw an increase of 7.6 per cent in tonnage of cargo handling to 50.73 million tonnes.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), BPHB Group chief executive officer (CEO) Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah said that apart from the extraordinary performance, all its subsidiaries also recorded positive growth.

“The tonnage of cargo handled at Bintulu Port last year was 50.73 million tonnes, an increase of 7.6 per cent compared to 2021.

“The number of vessel calls and container volume also increased by 11.4 per cent and 4.4 per cent respectively.

“Bintulu Port recorded its best performance since it started operations in 1983,” he said during the BPHB customer appreciation night last Saturday (Feb 25).

Medan also extended his appreciation and thanks for the contribution and cooperation from all stakeholders that has enabled the company’s outstanding performance.

Meanwhile, Medan also announced that his tenure as the CEO of BPHB Group will end and Ruslan Abdul Ghani will take the helm from March 1, 2023 onwards.

“I believe there is a bright future for Bintulu Port under his leadership.

“So let us continue the momentum and synergy among ourselves to achieve better performance in the coming years,” he said. — DayakDaily
