Premier wants ‘best of the best’ appointed into civil service

KUCHING, Feb 28: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg hopes that the appointment of civil servants will comeĀ from among the best of the best in terms of academic achievements.

Abang Johari conveyed this to the Public Services Commission (PSC) of Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman when receiving a courtesy visit from the latter at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Monday (Feb 27).

According to the news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) and TVS, Zainal gave assurance that this matter was taken into account by the PSC in making new appointments.


“We appoint the best, especially those with degree qualifications from renowned universities who are being given opportunities and offered to join the public sector.

“We also informed Sarawak Premier that during the interview process for shortlisted candidates, they will be evaluated on their critical thinking ability, identify their abilities, competency and their preparedness to serve the people,” he said.

During the meeting, Zainal also commended the Sarawak government for its advance digitalisation in various sectors as well as the region’s readiness to develop several areas.

“With the ongoing development of Nusantara (the new capital city of Indonesia), the Premier also hopes that Sarawak can explore further areas related to trade along the national borders, apart from focus on development projects,” he added. Datu Dr Abdullah Zaidel.

The purpose of the visit was to share on the Federal PSC’s experience in governance as well as to gain insights to further strengthen the public service sector in Malaysia.
