Bintulu MP tests positive for Covid-19, currently under quarantine

Dato Sri Tiong King Sing

KUCHING, Feb 19: Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has tested positive for Covid-19 and is undergoing self-quarantine for seven days.

He said he has been feeling unwell since yesterday (Feb 18) and underwent Covid-19 ‘ID Now’ testing, whereby the result was positive.

“To be more certain, I had already undergone a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test this morning, and it turned out that I had been infected with the virus.

“Now, I am undergoing self-quarantine for seven days,” he said in a statement today.

Tiong, who is also Dudong assemblyman, further said that his Bintulu and Dudong service centre had been temporarily closed after several staff members had also tested positive for Covid-19 and are currently undergoing quarantine.

On a similar note, he reminded his constituents to divert any needs or questions directly to the service centre staff or contact his mobile phone.

“During this quarantine period, I will do my best to help the people of Bintulu and Dudong in any way. I hope you all understand this situation for a while,” he said.

He also recommended that everyone who has met him in the past few days conduct Covid-19 screening and undergo self-quarantine.

“We can’t predict where this virus is and who will attack who. I’m not sure when and where I was infected with this virus.

“So I hope all parties can take this situation seriously. I deeply regret any inconvenience caused, and I also take this opportunity to apologise to all,” he said.

He also called upon members of the public to continue observing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

If there are no urgent matters, he advised everyone to stay at home, avoid crowded places, and sanitise hands from time to time. — DayakDaily
