KUCHING, Dec 19: Bidayuh entrepreneurs must think of ways to participate in business opportunities provided by the state government.

In making the call, Assistant Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said several business opportunities were laid by the state government under Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, among others in the oil and gas industries.

He also said the shifting of Indonesian capital to West Kalimantan would also provide vast business opportunities for Bidayuh entrepreneurs.

“Although business is not our culture unlike our Chinese counterparts, it doesn’t mean we can’t do it.

“So for the Bidayuh entrepreneurs, you must not stand and stare, but must think of ways to participate in the opportunities out there,” Dr Jerip said.

He was speaking at the closing of the entrepreneurship programme organised by Persatuan Usahawan Bidayuh Penrissen (PUBP) at St Paul Parish Hall at Jkg Segu Bunuk along Jln Borneo Heights today.

Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman reminded the Bidayuh entrepreneurs to avoid the ‘crab mentality’ of pulling each other down.

“Try to avoid the mentality of wanting to bring down our fellow successful businessmen, but must give strong support,” he pointed out.

He hoped that the Bidayuh entrepreneurs can learn from the Chinese and other successful businessmen on how to become successful.

He also hoped that the successful Bidayuh businessmen can help the less fortunate and the needy from the community.

“The spirit of giving to help the needy people in our community is very important, and I hope that the successful Bidayuh businessmen can do that,” he stressed.
