SPAOH, Jan 5: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah urges rural folks to be very wary of phone calls from unknown individuals offering enticing money-making schemes or investment opportunities.
He warned that these unscrupulous individuals are now reaching out to rural folks and more notably, parcel scams have now breached the corners of rural areas in Sarawak.
āWe must always be very wary of calls from unknown numbers. We must know who is calling us.
āWe must not be easily taken in by any investment proposals or offers promising us great profit in return.
āScammers are coming up with many scams to swindle you of your money or savings,ā he said here today when addressing a gathering at his longhouse Rh Mendit Unsu in Penom before officiating the opening of the National Information Dissemination Centre or NADI (Pusat Sebaran Maklumat Nasional) for his Bukit Saban constituency.
He advised any victims of scams to immediately lodge police report if they have been affected.
Aside from that, he also hoped youths in rural areas would not indulge in online gambling as such activity is very destructive.
āWe hope people will realise that gambling will not lead them anyway,ā he added.
