KUCHING, Sept 20: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has instructed the Sibu Resident to submit a comprehensive report on problems faced by farmers in the district due to rising floods these days.
This was revealed by Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, adding that with the report, all relevant parties would then discuss and work out a feasible plan to help the farmers who have suffered great losses during this flood season.
“It’s absurd that the PN (Perikatan Nasional) government is being condemned for ignoring the difficulties faced by the local farmers and not providing any aid.
“In fact, we have started looking for the most effective solution proactively, in order to support the local farmers,” he said in a statement yesterday.
In stating this, he chided Lanang MP Alice Lau for her recent statement questioning the PN government for not giving a helping hand to the local farmers in Sibu.
While presenting his argument that the state government under PN has indeed carried out measures to help the victims of Sibu floods, Tiong said a politician should be practical in taking care of the people’s well-being.
“As a politician, I would suggest the servants of the citizens to be sincere and genuine when it comes to helping the people, and be practical when it comes to solving the society’s livelihood issues.
“Arguments and debates do not solve the issues, especially when it comes to the local farmers and people who have been troubled by the recurrence of flash floods,” he asserted.
Adding on, he urged Lau to reflect on herself whether she had done any real contribution to the people throughout her time as an MP under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
“Pointing fingers at others is easy, but it definitely does not solve any problem for the people,” said Tiong.—DayakDaily
