LAWAS, March 12: The new Bandar Lawas bridge worth RM150 million is expected to complete by June 2025, says Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Awang Tengah, who is also Bukit Sari assemblyman, is confident in the contractor’s ability to complete the project on time.
“So far, the project delay is within four per cent, but we will try to catch up. They have sufficient assets and manpower, even more than what should be implemented,” he said when visiting the project site on Friday (March 10).
Awang Tengah, who is also Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) chairman, mentioned that the relocation of utilities and unexpected ground conditions caused the delay.
The new Bandar Lawas bridge project is part of a network to complete the Northern Coastal Highway and also part of the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) project.
In a previous report, it was informed that the project is being carried out by Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit (contractor) with Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) as the implementing agency.
The construction commenced on May 26 last year.
Once completed, the bridge with tower arches and suspension cables and decorated with LED lights will reduce the travelling time crossing the Batang Lawas to go to Jalan Pulau Salam on the north and Kampung Ladang Baru on the south of Lawas town. — DayakDaily
