KUCHING, July 13: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has led the Sarawak government delegation to the 2022 Esri User Conference at the San Diego Convention Centre in California.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), based on a press statement from the Sarawak Land and Survey Department, the Sarawak government delegation’s participation in the conference was to benchmark the State’s digital transformation and learn best practises and the latest geospatial technologies on the market.
The conference, which took place from July 11 to 15, 2022, was themed ‘GIS-Mapping Common Ground’ and was attended by approximately 15,000 delegates from around the world.
The delegates were invited to the National Government Executive Forum, a special event that brings together executives and senior managers from national geospatial data authorities, such as national mapping, charts, land administration, cadastre, and statistical organisations, where leaders share their success stories and experiences in meeting new challenges and flourishing in this field.
Furthermore, members of the delegation were also able to visit the Esri Expo to learn and deepen useful technologies for future reference as well as ongoing transformation in Next Generation LASIS, Utility Mapping, Urban Planning, and Mineral Management.
Meanwhile, members of the delegation met with Esri Malaysia to discuss and elaborate on the use of GIS technology, specifically soil stability, mineral mapping, forest sustainability, gas distribution master plan, climate change, tourism, and talent development.
Participating in the visit were Sarawak Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development Datu Len Talif Salleh, advisor to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (Mintred) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, general manager of Sarawak Multimedia Board (SMA) Dr Zaidi Razak, director of Sarawak Services Modernisation Unit (SSMU) Michael Ronnie Langgong, acting director of Sarawak Land and Survey Department Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood, and senior Sarawak government officials. — DayakDaily
