BAU, Feb 8: An industrial estate will be built in the district and targeted to begin implementation this year, to spur economic growth.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the allocation for the project has been approved by the state government and was tendered out last week.
“A piece of land near Bau general hospital, which is about 30 acres in size, has been identified for the industrial estate in Bau and we expect the project to be implemented within this year,” he told reporters after presenting land titles to 528 landowners at Kpg Bobak, Sejinjang, in Singai here today.
Awang Tengah said he could not remember the exact allocation off-hand, but asserted that it has been approved and would be implemented in phases.
“The industrial estate will provide opportunities to the locals who are involved in small and medium entrepreneurship,” the Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur explained.
According to him, the industrial estate will enable the people to engage themselves in food processing and selling crafts, who are abundant in the area.
Earlier in his speech, Awang Tengah urged the Bidayuh to continue working with the government and Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) for the land perimeter survey under Section 6 and 18 of the Sarawak Land Code.
He rubbished claims that the government has the intention to take away the people’s land for surveying their land under Section 6. — DayakDaily
