Awang Putrayusrie takes helm as Ukas director, succeeding Samuel Simon

KUCHING, Jan 2: Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, the former director of the Sarawak Sports Council, has officially taken on his new role as the director of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, succeeding Samuel Simon, who previously held the position.

The formal handover ceremony took place at the Ukas Headquarters in the Baitulmakmur Building, with the Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, witnessing the event.

Abdullah expressed his gratitude to Samuel for his dedication during his one and a half years as Ukas director, highlighting his extensive media experience, particularly with the Information Department, had positively impacted Ukas.

“Samuel’s strong commitment and spirit in fulfilling his duties have been commendable,” he remarked.

Welcoming Awang Putrayusrie, Abdullah emphasised the need for new leadership and fresh perspectives to further strengthen Ukas’s role.

“As we enter 2025, this new phase must be accompanied by a renewed energy. The new Ukas director must adapt to evolving circumstances and respond to the ever-changing communication challenges,” he said, stressing that Ukas must remain flexible and agile in its approach.

Awang Putrayusrie, in his address, acknowledged the significant responsibility of his new role and pledged to give his best in fulfilling the duties entrusted to him.

“I recognise that this is a significant challenge. I deeply appreciate the support, guidance, and advice from everyone at Ukas. I am committed to ensuring the successful execution of our responsibilities as a unified team,” he said.

In his farewell speech, Samuel expressed his pride in Ukas’ achievements, acknowledging there was still room for improvement.

“My time at Ukas has been truly meaningful, and I am grateful for the dedication and support of the entire team,” he stated, also expressing confidence in Awang Putrayusrie’s leadership to elevate Ukas and strengthen its role in public communications.

The ceremony was also attended by Ukas special administrative officer Datu Takun @ Takon Sunggah, along with the chief assistant directors of Ukas. —DayakDaily
