KUCHING, April 16: Greater cooperation in bilateral tourism and enhanced air connectivity were among matters discussed during a recent meeting between Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing and Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Van Hung.
In a Facebook post, Tiong shared that Vietnam’s Tourism Minister Nguyen commended Malaysia’s efforts as the Asean chair for 2025, particularly in hosting flagship events such as the Asean Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, which have strengthened unity and consensus among Asean member states.
Tiong also noted that both parties discussed the potential expansion of air routes between Malaysia and Vietnam to improve travel convenience.
Emphasising the many commonalities shared by both nations, Nguyen encouraged more people-to-people exchanges to enhance connectivity between Malaysians and Vietnamese. He also underscored the importance of leveraging cultural heritage, arts, and music to further develop the tourism industry.
Nguyen also noted that Malaysia and Vietnam have fostered fruitful bilateral cooperation in culture, tourism, and sports.
Both ministers exchanged insights on Muslim-friendly tourism, cultural festivals, and other initiatives, reaffirming Malaysia’s rich multicultural heritage and the need to create more platforms for exchange, mutual learning, and cultural appreciation.
As part of the ongoing collaboration, Tiong extended an invitation to Minister Nguyen to attend the Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Meeting, scheduled to take place in Kuching, Sarawak, from April 20 to 25, 2025.
He also proposed hosting a ‘Malaysia Tourism Night’ in Hanoi this July, along with other heritage-related events, and called for Vietnam’s tourism minister’s support to facilitate greater collaboration between tourism industry players from both nations. – DayakDaily
