KUCHING, March 13: The Magistrate’s Court here dismissed the application by the police to remand four suspects who were in a house where contraband cigarettes were found.

The four alleged subjects aged between 26-year-old and 53-years-old were arrested during a raid by The General Operations Force (GOF) during Ops Kontraband at a house in MJC Mutiara, Jalan Batu Kawa, at about 2.45pm on March 12, 2021.

Some 2,732,800 sticks of cigarette of various brands were found and confiscated during the raid.

Investigating Officer Stiffann Lawler Ating applied before Magistrate Zaiton Annuar to remand the four suspects for four days to further investigate the case.

However, Magistrate Zaiton Annuar dismissed the remand application due to a lack of nexus and the wrong provision of the Law applied.

All four suspects were represented by Counsel Shankar Ram and Dato Bong Ah Loi.

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1956. -DayakDaily
