KUCHING, Dec 14: The Persatuan Anak Seni Sarawak (Anak Seni) is set to showcase a musical theatre production titled “Sayang Sarawak” at 8.15pm in the Auditorium of Teachers Training Institute, Batu Lintang, on Dec 23.
Director Jalot Jeman highlighted that the musical theatre promises a dynamic fusion of artistic elements, including acting, dancing, singing, and martial arts.
Embracing the concept of Sarawak nobility (“bangsawan”), he explained that the performance unfolds in six engaging scenes, with five additional presentations woven into the narrative.
“The theatre will feature dance and song performances in each scene.
“It has six scenes, with five additional performances presented to the audiences. I hope the audiences will be captivated by the intricate portrayal of the characters on stage,” he said in a statement today.
Notably, the production boasts a collaborative effort, with participation not only from Anak Seni members but also seasoned stage actors from various theaters across Sarawak.
Jalot emphasised the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Working with experienced actors enhances the quality of our projects. The blend of new and seasoned talents fosters camaraderie and makes this musical theatre truly special.”
Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, the musical narrative unfolds a village life story encompassing themes of romance, greed, power, and deceit involving characters such as Buang, Ros, a village chief, Tok Dalang, and the son of a rich man, Putin.
It is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak and the Sarawak Arts Council.
