KUCHING, Jan 6: Only one way of the alternative route to ease traffic congestion along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway is open for now, says Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
He said the temporary shortcut is only available for road users from Kota Samarahan heading towards Tabuan Jaya Baru at Jalan Stutong without going through the TT3 roundabout.
He explained that the shortcut, which cuts through private development, is only temporary.
“That’s why we open only one way (for now). So there are two ways, but we open only one way first to see how we can further ease the traffic flow later.
“As I said, this shortcut will cause a little bit of inconvenience to the residents (in Tabuan Jaya Baru 2), but it is unavoidable.
“We will do our best, and rest assured that this is only a temporary route,” Wee told a press conference to witness the opening of the shortcut here earlier today.
He said the temporary route would be available to the public until there is a significant improvement in the traffic flow along the expressway.
Meanwhile, Wee urged public members to reach out to MBKS, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), or the police through proper channels regarding any complaints.
“If you have any complaints, let us know. Go through the proper channels and let us know. Don’t talk on Facebook (social media),” he said.
Also present was MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos, MBKS deputy mayor Hilmy Othman, MBKS councillor Cr Kho Teck Wan, Public Works Department (JKR) and Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) representatives. — DayakDaily
