KUCHING, Jan 5: A temporary alternative road to Jalan Stutong is expected to be opened tomorrow (Jan 6) to alleviate traffic congestion along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.

Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang said the shortcut through Tabuan Jaya Baru will enable road users to exit the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway towards SJKC Chung Hua without having to go through TT3 roundabout.

“I have contacted JKR (Public Works Department) and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development Ir Aidel Lariwoo to discuss with the housing developer the possibility to open a temporary rBDC route without passing through the (TT3) roundabout.

“After their meeting, they have agreed to open up the route immediately and work will be carried out as soon as possible and hopefully, the route can be opened to the public by Friday,” she said in a post on her social media page yesterday (Jan 4).

Rubiah, who is also Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, pointed out that this is part of a mitigation plan to reduce traffic congestion on the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.

On the traffic light intersections project to overcome traffic congestion at Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, she informed that the long-term plan also includes the construction of two new roads namely Bukit Berangan to Kuching Airport and from Kampung Baru Samarahan to Sejingkat Bridge which will be built.

“In addition, we also have two road upgrading projects involving road expansion from single carriageway to dual carriageway (four lanes) which covers road from Intan roundabout to Mile 8 and road from ILP Kota Samarahan to Sejingkat Bridge crossing Sarawak River.

“This will provide road users with more roads to go to Kuching. I hope these projects will be implemented as planned,” she added. — DayakDaily
