KUCHING, Sept 24: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) appeals to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to increase workforce capacity for the civil service since Sarawak has achieved a reasonable high vaccination rate throughout the State.

Its president Dato Tan Jit Kee noted that the Southern Region which involves Lundu, Bau, Kuching, Serian, Tebedu, Samarahan, Asajaya and Simunjan districts, is still placed under Phase 2 of National Recovery Plan.

He said SDMC should follow what was decided by the federal government and that is to allow offices of both public and private sectors with staff reaching 80 per cent full vaccination to operate at 100 per cent capacity.

“Therefore we hope that similar guideline could apply to civil service (in Sarawak) to increase the workforce to reduce the backlog cases in the government departments.

“We also hope SDMC would revise the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Southern Region so that not only private sector but the public sector could also return to the normal capacity as soon as possible, that would expedite the progress of recovery of our fragile economy,” he said in a virtual press conference via Zoom today. — DayakDaily
