SIBU, Sept 20: Quick action by a security guard led to the arrest of a jobless man suspected of shoplifting from a supermarket at Jalan Salim yesterday.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit revealed that at about 2pm yesterday, the 34-year-old security guard saw two men acting suspiciously while entering the supermarket.

“The guard followed one of them from behind. After that he saw the suspect carrying six bags of 10kg rice each and putting them into a trolley,” he said.

The items cost RM311.40.

The suspect, 33, then pushed the trolley out of the supermarket without paying at the counter.

“With the help of another security guard of the supermarket, the duo arrested the suspect,” he said.

The police are still looking for the second suspect who is still at large.
