AirAsia to operate Singapore-Kuching flight once every day starting April 29

Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin

KUCHING, April 27: There will be one AirAsia flight from Kuching to Singapore and back every day, starting this Friday (April 29).

Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the AirAsia Singapore-Kuching flight would be operating on a daily basis while that of the Singapore-Miri flight would operate every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Besides AirAsia, he said, Scoot Airlines is also operating their flight from Singapore to Miri twice weekly and to Kuching five times every week.

“We hope with two airlines operating the same route, it will create more availability and choices of flight as well as more competitive airfares for travellers and tourists.

“I hope that the availability of more flights from the two airlines, more tourists and travellers especially from outside Malaysia will be coming to Sarawak through Singapore,” he said in a statement today.

Lee also said that in his discussion last month with AirAsia Berhad chief executive officer (CEO) Riad Asmat, AirAsia was urged to play a bigger role in promoting Sarawak within the BIMP-EAGA region and other international destinations to boost tourism.

Meanwhile, Lee said his ministry has also written to remind AirAsia Berhad and other airlines serving Sarawak to continue offering reasonable air fares especially with the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak holidays.

“We trust that this will help to lighten the financial burden faced by the public since the first Movement Control Order (MCO) was imposed in 2020 to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

“Nonetheless, we also urge the public to plan ahead their journey for the coming celebrations and purchase their flight ticket in advance rather than buying at the last minute,” he added.

Despite the reopening of Sarawak and international borders, Lee reminded all passengers and travellers to continue to comply strictly with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities. — DayakDaily
