KUCHING, March 22: AirAsia Berhad has launched its Fixed Fares Campaign offering tickets prices as low as RM199 one-way to avoid the abrupt increase in flight fares.

Urging the public to book their tickets as early as possible, Sarawak’s Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that this campaign is to address the public’s concerns on expensive flight fares during festive seasons.

“For any of the festivals, the public would be facing trouble in booking their flight going back to their hometown due to the limited seats and exorbitant flight fares,” he said in a statement after a Zoom meeting with staff at AirAsia Berhad’s headquarters in Selangor yesterday.

According to Lee, during the Zoom meeting, he had requested AirAsia to re-introduce the Kuching-Shenzhen-Kuching route.

“My ministry has also sought the views of business, tourism and logistics stakeholders,” he added.

“All of them have expressed their strong support to request AirAsia to re-activate the Kuching-Shenzhen-Kuching flight, which AirAsia terminated after one year of operation,” he revealed.

Lee urged the airline to play a pivotal role for the public and government by offering greater flight frequency into and within Sarawak.

“This will ensure flight fares are capped at affordable prices to ensure Sarawakians can travel back to their hometowns and return to work or study, especially during festive seasons and school holidays,” he said.

Lee disclosed that the chairman and committee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Sarawak fully supported his request that AirAsia re-introduce the Kuching-Shenzhen-Kuching flight.

“The meeting between relevant agencies and AirAsia also express support to request the airline to re-activate the Kuching-Shenzhen-Kuching flight,” he said.

Lee added he also had a meeting with the airline’s Sarawak Affairs Relations Officer Hamdan Mohamad to discuss additional flights to Sarawak for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, school holidays and other festive seasons.
