Accident takes life of 4-year-old girl while baby brother fighting for life

KUCHING, July 9: A tragic accident has left a four-year-old girl dead while her seven month old brother is still fighting for his life.

The family of four from Kampung Temong Muara, Serian was riding on a motorcycle from Kuching city heading towards 3rd Mile when it rammed into a car that had turned right.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu said the incident happened along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce at about 12.01am on Wednesday.

“The family of four was riding on the motorcycle consist of a 31-year-old man, his 34-year-old wife and their two children.

“Initial investigations revealed that the girl was sitting in front of the motorcycle when the accident happened. She was pronounced dead at Sarawak General Hospital emergency and trauma unit at 1.15am due to serious head injuries.

“Her brother suffered serious body injuries while her mother suffered serious leg injuries,” Alexson said in a statement.

The girl’s father suffered minor injuries while the 34-year-old car driver was unharmed.

Alexon also said the car driver was arrested under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987.

His blood sample was also taken for alcohol analysis before he was released under police bail. — DayakDaily
