KUCHING, May 2: Sarawak has a second option for its digital banking ambitions to transform and move the State forward through an integrated digital economy.
According to Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the State’s recent failure to secure a digital banking licence is not a problem at all.
“I think it should be okay. After all we already have Sarawak Pay (S Pay Global),” he told reporters after attending the Aidilfitri 2022 Open House hosted by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.
Abang Johari said this when asked for his comment regarding Sarawak’s unsuccessful bid to get a digital banking licence from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).
When further pressed on whether Sarawak are going to appeal the matter, Abang Johari said “no, because the second option is already related to that”.
On April 29, BNM announced the Ministry of Finance had approved digital bank licences for five successful applicants. — DayakDaily
