KUCHING, April 6: As Sarawak’s politics is peaceful, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg can travel everywhere including Mulu without having to worry about the Sarawak government being toppled.

Comparing the different political situations in Peninulsar Malaysia and Sarawak, Abang Johari said Sarawak’s politics have been “peaceful” unlike that of Peninsular Malaysia, where there is constant political strife to overthrow the powers that be.

He credited Sarawak’s peaceful political scenario to freedom of religion practised in Sarawak where Sarawakians of all religions follow what their respective religion teaches them by being “good” and accepting others of different religion.

“That is why Sarawak is so peaceful including in politics. Politics is also peaceful unlike Peninsular (Malaysia) where they are fighting amongst each other, which MPs support who to become prime minister.

“If they are busy doing that, they have no time to do other things and think of people.

“All in GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) are united so now I can come to Mulu. If not, my mind will be troubled and worried about what is happening in Kuching and when will I be toppled,” said Abang Johari at a ‘Meet the People Session’ held at Mulu Marriot Resort and Spa in Miri earlier tonight.

He said Sarawak is “inclusive” and that is why, Sarawakians are united despite having different religions, faiths, backgrounds, and cultures.

“we are all the same. In Sarawak we can use ‘Allah’, other places you can’t. People fight over the use of the word ‘Allah’. In Sarawak, anytime you can use ‘Allah’,” said Abang Johari.

He reiterated that Sarawak is also the only State with a Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) especially set up to take care of the needs of non-Islamic religions including the building of churches.

“It is easy for us, because we all believe in God and our religions teach us not to lie, to not make baseless allegations. After all, it (faith) is between you and God,” said Abang Johari.

Before he ended his speech, he added that he had approved the various development projects of Mulu which is a sub-district, including the setting up of a mini township to serve the people and tourists better.

Meanwhile, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala said Unifor had allocated RM150,000 for BEM Kampung Melinau, RM150,000 for Kampung Melinau Catholic Church and RM90,000 to upgrade the BEM church in Long Man. All these church projects had been completed. — DayakDaily
