KUCHING, Oct 30: About 90 households along Jalan Bintulu-Tatau are now connected to the electricity grid under the Additional or Late Applicant Fund (ALAF) initiative.

Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) in a statement today said the grid-connected households are at Rumah Lampoh Dana (44 households), Rumah Jungan Mitoh (19 households), Rumah Sam Sumbang (14 households) including 16 personal residences in the surrounding area—all of which now have access to 24-hour electricity supply.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said in Jepak constituency alone, the State government has spent RM7.29 million to electrify 397 homes to date.

“For the three longhouses and personal residences in the surrounding areas, the ALAF project involves an investment of RM442,700, covering the installation of low-tension lines, high-tension lines, transformers and service lines.

“The State government has accelerated the delivery of rural electrification projects to ensure the provision of reliable and affordable electricity supply to the rakyat. This is also important to support growth in the rural areas,” he said.

He added that since ALAF was implemented in 2018, a total of RM230 million has been allocated for the fund, benefiting 20,713 households.

Of these, he said, 14,348 households have been powered up and are now grid-connected and another 5,366 households are in various stages of implementation of getting connected, while 999 households are in the survey stage.

“The State government’s mission is to ensure that all Sarawakians have access to reliable electricity supply and we are almost fully electrified statewide.

“Sarawak’s rural electricity coverage has increased from 56 per cent in 2009 to 97.9 per cent in 2022,” he said. — DayakDaily
