KUCHING, March 3: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has assured that the 7th Mile market will not be closed while the upgrading works are ongoing.

He promised that he would closely monitor the renovation and assist the hawkers, if needed, during the construction period.

He thus urged the hawkers at 7th Mile market not to listen to rumours and be patient with the short-term inconveniences to enjoy a better trading environment in the near future.

Yap said he had on Wednesday (March 1) officially handed over the 7th Mile market project site to the contractor in charge.

“During the handover, some of the hawkers had further requested for additional works not covered under the scope of the RM400,000 upgrading works,” he said in a statement today.

The RM400,000 fund for upgrading the market was approved under Yap’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

With that, Yap hopes that Michael Kong, the special assistant to Chong Chieng Jen, would request Chong, who is the Stampin MP, to secure additional funds from the federal government to carry out the requested additional upgrading works. — Dayakdaily
