7,600 expected to join Maulidur Rasul procession in Miri on Oct 10

MIRI, Sept 30: This year’s State-level Maulidur Rasul celebration, which will be held in Miri city, will host 127 contingents involving 7,600 participants from various agencies and private sectors in a city-wide procession on Oct 10.

According to Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication II Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who chaired a press conference today, the procession is scheduled to commence around 8am at Miri Stadium.

ā€œThe procession will start from Miri Stadium, heading towards Jalan Bintang, Jalan Merdu, Jalan Sylvia, Jalan Brooke, Jalan Nakhoda Gampar, Jalan North Yu Seng, Jalan Merpati, Bulatan Kipas, Jalan Bintang and back to Miri Stadium,ā€ he said.

He added the first prize winner of the procession would receive a cash prize of RM3,000, followed by RM2,000 for second place, RM 1,000 for third place, RM800 for fourth place, and RM600 for fifth place.

In addition, the winners will also receive trophies and certificates.

At the press conference were Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datuk Misnu Taha and State Islamic Religious Department (Jais) director Khalidi Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, on Oct 9 (a day before the procession), thanksgiving prayers will be held at the At-Taqwa Mosque with Maghrib prayer, followed by the recital of ‘Surah Yaasin’ and ā€˜Zikir Marhaban’.

The event will continue with ‘Azan Isyak’ followed by ā€˜Solat Fardhu Isyak’ and conclude with a dinner joined by non-Muslim dignitaries.

Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib are expected to attend.

Also expected to attend the event are the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, and State dignitaries. ā€” DayakDaily
