74 new cases notch up Pasai Cluster tally to 1,704

KUCHING, Jan 28: Out of the 10 active clusters in Sarawak, Pasai Cluster in Sibu continued to top the list with the highest number of infections at 74 cases to push the cluster tally to 1,704 as of today.

Other than that, a further seven cases were added to the Rakut Cluster in Miri and four cases added to the newly emerged Indah Riang Cluster in Kuching.

Sarawak reported one Covid-19 death in Sibu and 171 new Covid-19 cases today.


State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, revealed that a total of 18,550 individuals from Pasai Cluster have been screened whereby 15,500 were negative and 1,296 were still awaiting test results.

Pasai Siong, which is the epicentre of the fourth wave of Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in Sarawak, has adversely impacted Sibu district, which today continued to register the highest number of cases statewide at 77 with 43 cases linked to the Pasai Cluster while 34 cases detected from various screenings.

The Sibu Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) are currently filled up with a record 1,068 patients as of today.

Three patients in Sibu Hospital were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while two patients required the support of medical equipment.

As the Covid-19 cases from the Pasai Cluster had spread to other districts in Sarawak, Dalat recorded the second-highest number of cases linked to the cluster with 13 cases followed by Miri 12 cases and Kapit two cases added to the cluster.

Bintulu, Kuching and Kapit were not spared with one case each reported today related to the same cluster.

Meanwhile, the seven new cases recorded in Rakut Cluster in Miri increased the total number of cases in the cluster to 107. SDMC informed that 350 individuals have been screened whereby 233 were negative and 10 are still awaiting test results.

With four cases added to the Indah Riang Cluster in Kuching, the cluster tally now stands at 20 cases. A total of 150 individuals have been screened whereby 83 tested negative while 47 are still awaiting results.

The rest of the clusters namely Bedayan in Serian, Bukit Sekubong in Sebauh, Jelita and Bah Sayap in Miri, Keranji Tabuan and Stutong in Kuching as well as Mador in Meradong did not record any cases today.

However, of the total 307 individuals under the Bedayan Cluster screened, 97 tested negative and 197 are still awaiting test results. — DayakDaily
