6th Samarahan Bike Challenge calling for entries

KUCHING, Jan 21: Cash prizes totalling RM11,000 are up for grabs in the 6th Samarahan Bike Challenge 2019.

To be held from March 30-31, the event is open to everyone, including foreigners, with the organisers expecting at least 200 participants in total.

The theme for the 6th edition of the race is `Till The Last Rideā€™, with the objectives of popularising cycling as a sport among school students, promoting Kota Samarahan as a sporting destination, and to discover new talents for Sukma (Malaysia Games).


The race will start and finish at Summer Mall in Kota Samarahan through Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, while the starting times are to be advised by organisers later.

There will be five categories: Elite Lelaki Kriterium (42km), Veteran AllStar Kriterium (36km), Sarawak Close Kriterium (42km), Junior Lelaki Kriterium (30km) and Ladies Kriterium (30km).

For the Elite Lelaki Kriterium (42km) category, the top cash prize is RM1,500, followed by first runner-up (RM1,000), second runner-up (RM800), followed by RM500, RM300, RM200, RM150 in descending placings, and three consolation prizes of RM100 each.

For the Veteran AllStar Kriterium (36km) category, first place is RM1,000, second place (RM800), third (RM600) and two consolation prizes of RM300 each.

The Sarawak Close Kriterium (42km) category will give away RM400 to the winner followed by second-place RM300, third RM200, fourth and fifth RM100 each, and sixth and seventh-placed RM50 each.

The Junior Lelaki Kriterium (30km) category winner will get RM350 cash prize followed by RM250 second place, RM150 third and RM100 each for fourth and fifth-placed.

Winner for the Ladies Kriterium (30km) will get RM350 cash prize followed by first runner-up RM250 and second runner-up RM150 and for the third and fourth runners-up will get RM100 each.
