KUCHING, June 27: Some 3,000 participants are expected to take part in a procession in conjunction with the 60th Sarawak Independence Day at Padang Merdeka here on July 22.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) news report, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the programme would involve 60 contingents representing various ministries, government departments and agencies, public institutions of higher learning, associations, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
“The procession will be joined by various media organisations, namely, Ukas, TVS, Information Department (JaPen), National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas), RTM, Bernama, Cats FM, Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA), and Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA),” he said.
He said this after chairing a briefing on the procession at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday (June 26).
Abdullah added Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, will be present at the programme.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Datuk Amar Puan Sri Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, will also be present.
Abdullah said that the parade participants would also contest in three categories: State and Federal Governments; Statutory Bodies, Government Linked Companies (GLC) and Local Authorities; and Associations, Organisations, and Clubs.
In the meantime, three rehearsal sessions will be held from July 18 to 20 to ensure the programme will run smoothly.
Sarawak Protocol, Ceremonies and Event Management Unit (UPPANS) director Datu Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin and Ukas director Samuel Simon were present during the briefing. — DayakDaily
