SIBU, Dec 16: In just half an hour today, the response to the sale of Petros red liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders was so overwhelming that all 60 units were snapped up.

The event, a collaborative effort between Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Service Centre and PetrosNiaga Sdn Bhd’s dealer Billion Commitment Sdn Bhd, took place at the Xin Fu Yuan Methodist Church compound.

With a total of 60 gas cylinders designated for the programme, the event drew early birds who began lining up as early as 7am, including a significant number of elderly resident.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng expressed satisfaction with the programme’s reception, particularly among the elderly residents facing transportation challenges.

“Many of them are elderly residents from Brooke Drive area. Despite the programme only commenced at 9am, the venue was already teeming with people.

“Although the seniors had difficulty with transportation, but my team facilitated the delivery of cylinders to their homes,” he told reporters when met today.

Chieng highlighted that the cylinders were sold at the original price of RM26.60, which is the original price of PetrosNiaga’s red gas cylinder for self-collection.

He anticipated an increased participation of traders in distributing Petros gas following this successful initiative.

“This concern (exchanging other LPS gas cylinders with Petros’ red gas cylinder) is no longer a pressing issue. We believe there will be greater involvement of traders in the distribution of these cylinders in the near future,” he said.

Chieng added that his service centre will organise similar programmes in the Bukit Assek area for the convenience of the residents so that they would not have to travel far to acquire the Petros gas cylinders. — DayakDaily
