KUCHING, Oct 19: Holders of yellow liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders can exchange them for Petros Niaga’s red cylinders free of charge, Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi says, adding that MyGaz took over the business from Shell more than 10 years ago.

He was responding to an interjection by Pending assemblywoman, Violet Yong during his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUS) complex today.

She raised concerns over the exchange of yellow cylinders still bearing Shell’s branding, citing an incident involving three cylinders.

According to Yong, a request had been made to PETROS to exchange the cylinders, but workers from Petros LPG Min Soon had refused to accept them.

The Pending assemblywoman sought clarification on whether the exchange arrangement covered yellow Shell-branded cylinders, rather than only those associated with MyGaz.

“We want this matter to be resolved so that consumers do not have to keep contacting the hotline and service provider over the same issue,” she said.

Julaihi clarified that MyGaz took over Shell’s yellow cylinder business more than a decade ago, meaning the cylinders now belong to MyGaz.

However, he assured that the State government would continue allowing holders of yellow cylinders to exchange them for Petros Niaga’s red LPG cylinders on a one-to-one basis without any charges.

He maintained that holders of yellow cylinders were welcome to exchange them for Petros Niaga’s red cylinders under the existing arrangement. —DayakDaily
