KUCHING, Aug 13: Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) swept clean all 32 seats in the Terengganu state election yesterday (Aug 12).
This result ultimately ended Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Said’s reign of the Kijal seat, which he had held for the past nine terms (1990).
The seat now belongs to Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Senator Datuk Razali Idris, who won with a majority of 3,758 votes.
The same day also witnessed the by-election for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat, which saw PAS’ Datuk Amzad Hashim win against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Azan Ismail with a handsome majority of 47,266 votes.
The by-election was called after Terengganu Election Court on June 27 annulled Amzad’s victory for the seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) due to corrupt practices. — DayakDaily
