TATAU, Oct 20: A five-year-old Indonesian boy and two local men were killed after their 4WD vehicle plunged into a ravine and submerged into a lake at Mile 69, Pelugau junction yesterday (Oct 19).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak reported that following police instructions, an excavator was employed to retrieve the submerged vehicle before the arrival of firefighters from the Tatau and Selangau stations.
With the vehicle was back on dry land, the firefighters swiftly initiated a search and rescue operation. Regrettably, the child was discovered inside the vehicle.
The firefighters then set out to locate the other two victims at the bottom of the lake.
The second victim, identified as 33-year-old Dominic Serang, was found at 3.30pm, while the third victim, 32-year-old Robin Kehing, was located at 4.28pm.
Tragically, all three victims were pronounced deceased by the paramedics on site. Their remains were handed over to the police for further procedures and investigation.
The Bomba operation centre received the emergency call at 1.38pm. Upon reaching the Pelugau junction, it became apparent that the fire truck was unsuitable for the rugged terrain.
Instead, 4WD vehicles from a local timber company and the Selangau station were used to transport the necessary rescue equipment to the accident site. — DayakDaily
