SRI AMAN, April 1: A 56-year-old driver was killed while a passenger sustained injuries after their four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle skidded and turned turtle at KM58, Jalan Sri Aman/Sarikei here today.
Sri Aman District Police Chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the self-accident occurred around 10am.
“Preliminary investigation found that the vehicle had skidded to the right lane before turning upside down.
“At that moment, the driver was thrown out of the vehicle and sustained major head injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedics from Skrang Clinic,” he said in a statement today.
The victim was identified as Musa Mat, 56, from Kampung Bintawa Ulu, Kuching.
Meanwhile, the passenger identified as Peli Seman, 59, from Kampung Tanjung Bako, Kuching, sustained injuries on the head and left arm during the crash.
He was rushed to the Betong Hospital for further treatment afterwards.
“This accident does not involve other vehicles and the victims were enroute from Kuching to Betong to work for Pan Borneo Highway project,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – DayakDaily
