5,000 turn out to welcome King and Queen at Pantai Bungai

Their Majesties were welcomed with various traditional performances upon arrival at Pantai Bungai.

MIRI, Sept 10: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah made a stop at Pantai Bungai in Bekenu today as part of their “Kembara Kenali Borneo 2023”.

Their Majesties was accompanied by their children, the Regent and Crown Prince of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatduddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, Tengku Ahmad Ismail, and Tengku Amir Naseer.

The royal entourage arrived at the beach around 12.10pm.


In his speech, His Majesty reminded Mirians, and generally Sarawakians on the importance of preserving unity to ensure continous development.

“Stay united with one another, give your undivided support to the present government—this is because through a stable government, you can easily obtain development (for your areas)..I love all of you, both Sabah and Sarawak.”

More than 5,000 people from surrounding villages, some of whom have been waiting at the site from as early as 6am, cheered and waved at Their Majesties upon their arrival.

Upon their arrival, the King and Queen signed a ‘Kembara Kenali Borneo 2023’ plaque to commemorate their visit.

Their Majesties were also treated to ‘Majlis Santap Diraja’ and were welcomed with various traditional performances and activities, including ‘adai-adai’, ‘bermukum’, tug-of-war games, palm frond sledding (‘tarik upih pinang’), and demonstration of preparing traditional local delicacy ‘talamo’.

Among those present to welcome the King and Queen were Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Minister for Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Enterprenuer Development Dr Ripin Lamat.

Their Majesties are scheduled to make their way to Bintulu Division later today. — DayakDaily
