49 sick housing projects identified in first quarter 2025, 15 resolved with 20 resumed construction

KUCHING, May 27: Out of 663 housing projects in the first quarter of 2025, the Public Health, Housing and Local Government Ministry has identified 49 sick projects, which constitutes 7.4 per cent.

Out of the 49 sick projects, 15 are completed resolved while 20 have resumed construction, leaving the remaining 14 at different stages of intervention.

Of the resolved cases, two projects are expected to receive occupation permit.
 
“This progress is a clear indicator that our commitment to protecting homebuyers’ rights and to support affected buyers and ensuring that developers abide by the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Ordinance, 2013 and Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Regulations, 2014,” said Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian when delivering his winding up address at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly here today.


Meanwhile, he also disclosed that between 2022 and May 2025, a total of 293 claims were filed with the Tribunal for Housing Purchaser Claims, with 269 cases settled.

These cases, from areas such as Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu, include both current and previous year’s filings. A total of 89 cases are still pending hearings.
 
Additionally, as of May 2025, 16 cases are currently under prosecution for non-compliance with Tribunal Awards, pursuant to Section 53 of the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Ordinance, 2013. — DayakDaily
