TANJUNG MANIS, May 2: A 40-year-old man is feared to have drowned after slipping and falling into the water while walking down a jetty towards a vessel near the Tanjung Manis Fisheries Port early this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Tanjung Manis received the emergency call at 1.56am and promptly deployed a team to the scene near the Tanjung Manis new township in Belawai.
A search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated at 8am to locate the victim, who hails from Rumah Lambai in Sungai Mapai, Kanowit.
According to a witness, the man was last seen wearing jean shorts and a blue collared shirt. He was believed to be returning to a trawler to rest following a gathering with colleagues.
While making his way down the jetty, he reportedly slipped and fell into the river.
His colleagues attempted to search for him but were unsuccessful, prompting them to alert a security officer and file a police report. — DayakDaily
