37yo man sustains leg injury while fishing in Belawai waters

KUCHING, March 13: A 37-year-old man sustained a right leg injury after being struck by a trawl board while fishing in the waters off Belawai last Monday (March 10).

The victim, a crew member of the Local Fishing Vessel (VNT) SF1-4864, was successfully evacuated by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Manis Maritime Zone through a Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation.

According to Tanjung Manis Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Commander Gilbert Tinggak anak Numpang, the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Kuching received a phone call from an officer of the Sarawak Department of Marine Fisheries, reporting that a Class C VNT crew member was bleeding from his right leg while fishing.

Upon arrival at the jetty, the victim, who was in a weakened condition, was immediately rushed to the Tanjung Manis Health Clinic for further treatment.
