KUCHING, March 13: Tebedu will undergo a RM50 million upgrade with the establishment of an Economic and Cultural Hub at Bandar Mutiara Tebedu, aimed at enhancing the socio-economic status and income of the district’s residents
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the hub will be managed by the Greater Kuching Development Coordination Agency (GKCDA). The project is expected to start next year, with completion targetted for 2028.
Tebedu member of the State Assembly (ADUN) Dr Simon Sinang Bada, who has long aspired to elevate the status of Bandar Mutiara Tebedu, has proposed the establishment of the Tebedu Economic and Cultural Hub, which will be managed by the Greater Kuching Development Coordination Agency (GKCDA) and is expected to cost around RM50 million.
With the implementation of this project, he is confident that Bandar Mutiara Tebedu could become a more advanced town, on par with Serian town.
“Bandar Mutiara Tebedu has always been known for its name and history, but to further develop this area, we need to upgrade it to a higher level.
“I hope this project not only enhances the socio-economy but also provides extensive job opportunities for the local residents,” said Sinang was quoted as saying while chairing a dialogue session with landowners at the Tebedu District Office Meeting Room today.
As part of the project, two companies have also expressed their interest in building factories in the industrial site area in Bandar Mutiara Tebedu, which could open more than 2,000 job opportunities for the local residents.
“The existence of these factories, along with the job opportunities they offer, will help reduce the migration of young people to Kuching or abroad in search of employment.
“This will also reduce dependence on the city center and provide more career options and economic opportunities for the residents here,” he added.
With the establishment of the Tebedu Economic and Cultural Hub, Sinang said it would not only open up more business and investment opportunities but also has the potential to become a new attraction for tourists who want to witness the unique culture and history of Tebedu. – DayakDaily
