KUCHING, June 28: Some 36 Covid-19 positive cases at a supermarket at Jalan Semariang, Petra Jaya here have given rise to a new Covid-19 cluster known as the Jalan Semariang Cluster.
According to a report from Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, a total of 176 individuals linked to the supermarket have been swabbed.
Out of that number, 36 were tested positive including the index case. Another 72 individuals tested negative while the remainder 68 are still awaiting for their swab test results.
SDMC said all the Covid-19 patients linked to the cluster have been referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Serian Hospital and Kuching Covid-19 Assessment Centre for treatment.
The Jalan Semariang Cluster is the second such case reported within days following a similar incident happened at a supermarket at Jalan Setia Raja with 10 cases reported on June 24.
The Jalan Semariang Cluster is one of the five new clusters identified in Sarawak today.
The other four new clusters are the Luteng Cluster in Telang Usan, Po Ai Cluster in Sri Aman, Blimbing Cluster in Bau and Simpang Koko Cluster in Sarikei.
Following the ending of the Jalan Rubber Cluster in Kuching today, there are still 97 Covid-19 clusters which are still active in Sarawak.
Out of the 97 clusters, 16 reported 90 new cases of coronavirus while the balance of 81 clusters did not report any new cases. — DayakDaily
