KUCHING, Dec 15: Thirty-one hawkers and traders were appointed to Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) Market and Hawker Liaison Committee from January 2024 to December 2024.

The members, appointed during a session held at MBKS headquarters today, also received their certificates of appointment from the council, with Tan Choon Yong elected as the chairman.

Comprising of traders operating within markets and hawker centres under MBKS’ jurisdiction, they are committed to serving a one-year term to address pertinent issues concerning their respective markets and the hawkers.

During the session, MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised the vital role of the committee in advocating traders’ concerns and maintaining the esteemed reputation of their centres.

He also urged committee members to engage actively with the council, highlighting issues faced by traders and committed to upholding the cleanliness and overall well-being of the facilities.

MBKS deputy mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili and MBKS Standing Committee for Markets and Petty Traders chairman Councillor Mok Chuang Ping were also present. — DayakDaily
