KUCHING, Sept 28: A total of 30 telecommunication towers have been approved in Puncak Borneo under the National Digital Interconnection Program (Jendela) by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia, says Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin.

He said the Jendela towers in Teng Bukap, Sungai Pinang, Plaman Baki and Kampung Podam are currently at the land acquisition stage, which is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2023.

Those in Kampung Bunga, Tarat Melawi and Bisira Rayang, he added, are currently under construction and are scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023.

“A total of 23 towers are still in the works, as the authorities look at acquiring suitable land, namely in Kampung Biya Parang, Kiding, Sapit, Karu, Bunuk, Sitang, Pulau Kandis, Annah Rais, Tijirak, Annah Sibuang, Danu, Giam Baru, Abang, Biya Kamas, Plaman Ā Payang, Patung and Gayu,” he said.

Mongin, who is also Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, said the government also implemented the Point of Presence (PoP) project in Puncak Borneo to provide fibre optic connectivity to schools and industrial areas.

Some of the schools involved in this PoP project are SK Siniawan, SK Rayang Serian, SK Puak, SK Simpang Kuda, SK Serumbu, SK Gumbang, SK Segubang, SK Tringgus, SK Pedaun Bawah, SK Plaman Sigandar, SK Siburan Batu, SJKC Chung Hua Baru 32, SMK Paku, SMK Padawan and SMK Tun Abdul Razak.

ā€œThe digitalisation project throughout the Puncak Borneo parliamentary constituency with the installation of a fiber optic network is being actively implemented to ensure that the people do not fall out of the digital economy programme,ā€ he said in a statement today.

Under the Sarawak government, Mongin said 27 telco towers were approved by the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), of which 15 were already completed and there are two in the site identification stage. ā€” DayakDaily
