3 new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak: Longhouse with 76 cases, 2 linked to workplaces with 51 cases

KUCHING, Sept 3: A total of 76 residents of a longhouse at Nanga Tapir, Layar in Betong have tested positive for Covid-19, thus triggering one of the three new clusters declared in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that of the cases reported in the Nanga Tapir Cluster in Betong, five cases were reported today.

A total of 101 individuals have been screened, whereby only three tested negative with no lab test results pending.

All cases have been admitted either to Betong Hospital or the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Betong for treatment and isolation.

The other two new clusters were linked to workplaces with one in Sibu involved a maritime training institute which reported 24 cases, and another in Subis involving an oil palm plantation under lockdown with 27 cases.

The Jalan Masuri Cluster in Sibu involved several trainers and students of a maritime training institution located at Jalan Masuri.

Of the 24 cases confirmed, 12 cases were reported today.

A total of 36 individuals have been screened, whereby 12 tested negative with no lab test results pending.

All cases have been admitted either to Sibu Hospital or PKRC Sibu for treatment and isolation.

The Sawit Gelasah Cluster in Subis involved the workers of an oil palm plantation under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at Jalan Miri-Bintulu in Batu Niah.

Of the 27 cases confirmed, four cases were reported today.

A total of 93 individuals have been screened, whereby 59 tested negative while seven are still waiting for lab test results.

All cases have been admitted either to the Miri Hospital or PKRC Miri for treatment and isolation.

SDMC has also today declared the end of two clusters namely Bedup Longgo Cluster in Serian and Jalan Merbau Cluster in Kuching, after no new cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stood at 138, out of which 17 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections to contribute a total of 230 cases to the state’s caseload today. — DayakDaily
