3 new Covid-19 clusters declared in Sarawak, 1 each in Bintulu, Meradong and Betong

KUCHING, April 20: A new Covid-19 cluster dubbed the Sungai Rian Cluster in Meradong with 48 positive cases recorded was among three new clusters declared in Sarawak today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that the other two new clusters were the Pasar Ikan Sebiew Cluster in Bintulu and Kampung Tengah Cluster in Betong.

On the Sungai Rian Cluster, a total of 119 individuals have been screened whereby 63 tested negative for the virus while eight are still awaiting lab test results.

The Pasar Ikan Sebiew Cluster has six cases whereby 21 individuals have been screened with 10 testing negative and five still awaiting lab test results.

The Kampung Tengah Cluster added four more cases today to increase the cluster’s tally to 15. A total of 385 individuals were screened whereby 207 tested negative and 163 are still awaiting for results.

Uggah also reported that the Jalan Awang Cluster in Sibu and Nanga Bulo Cluster in Julau have officially ended today as no new cases were reported in the past 28 days.

“With three new clusters created and two clusters ended, Sarawak has now 50 active clusters with a total of 15 clusters recorded 118 new cases while 35 clusters did not register any increase in cases,” he told a press conference on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

Of the existing active clusters that saw an increase in cases, the Jalan Bambangan Cluster recorded 16 cases, Sungai Duan (13 cases), Jalan Disa (9 cases), Bulatan Aman (7 cases), Jalan Ding Lik Kwong (6 cases), Tarat Tani and Kampung Tengah Betong (4 cases each), Sungai Kawi and Disso (3 cases each), Jalan Puncak Borneo (2 cases) while Sungai Selutut and Tembok Sri Aman recorded one cases each.

Meanwhile, Uggah who is also Deputy Chief Minister, also informed that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) at Kampung Batu Gong in Siburan, Serian has ended considering that the second round of swab tests did not find any new positive cases.

“In addition, there is also no evidence that infections are still spreading in the area.

“The SDMC would like to take this opportunity to thank all agencies and villagers for their collaboration in the success of the EMCO,” he added. — DayakDaily
