Sarikei man, 74, becomes 141st Covid-19 fatality as Sarawak sees 600 new cases

KUCHING, April 20: A 74-year-old man in Sarikei who has final stage kidney disease became the 141st casualty due to Covid-19 in Sarawak today.

Sarawak also registered 600 new Covid-19 cases with Bintulu leading as the district with the most cases at 110.


According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, apart from Bintulu, today’s new cases were derived from Sibu (98), Kuching (83), Meradong (54), Kapit (41), Tatau (38), Mukah (31), Sarikei (25), Miri (24), Song (20), Kanowit (13), Serian (10), Betong (10), Beluru (7), Selangau (6), Subis (6), Kabong (6), Marudi (5), Samarahan (5), Saratok (4), Pakan (3) and Julau (1).

With this, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 25,129.

As for the State’s latest Covid-19 fatality, SDMC revealed the man had fever for a number of days and was given breathing aid due to shortness of breath.

The man had hypertension, dyslipidemia, anemia, and final stage kidney disease. He passed away yesterday (April 19).

On another note, there were 512 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were discharged from hospitals and low risk quarantine centres throughout the state.

There are 5,695 Covid-19 patients who are still being treated for the coronavirus in various health facilities throughout Sarawak.

There were 596 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases, with five PUI cases awaiting lab test results. — DayakDaily
