KUCHING, Dec 19: A total of 296 table tennis players from 14 contingents including representatives from Putrajaya, Labuan and Kuala Lumpur will compete in the 41st MILO Malaysia Junior & Cadet Table Tennis Championship taking place at SJK Chung Hua from today until Dec 23.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the 5-day event will determine medals in the male and female under-19 and under-15-years-old categories respectively.
He further said the Malaysia Games (Sukma) committee has approved 28 compulsory sports, including table tennis, to be contested in Sukma in 2024.
“Therefore, this tournament provides an excellent platform for the under-19 players to showcase their abilities, considering many are likely to represent their states in the 2024 Sukma Games in Sarawak.
“This championship offers an opportunity for players to assess their opponents’ strengths and advantages while identifying their own weaknesses.
“I am confident that the players’ performance in this championship will serve as a measuring tool for states to evaluate and select participants for the 2024 Sukma Games,” he said during the opening ceremony for the Championship here last night (Dec 18). — DayakDaily
