MIRI, April 5: A devastating fire ravaged a 105-door longhouse in Long Belok in Apoh, Baram, leaving 28 villagers homeless yesterday morning (April 4).
Firefighters from the Marudi Fire and Rescue (Bomba) station were alerted to the incident at 7.55am, which consumed six of the longhouse’s doors.
The remote location of the longhouse posed a challenge for firefighters, and by the time they reached the scene, the flames had already subsided. Due to that, no operation was carried out.
However, the firefighters assessed the situation and assisted the affected villagers.
According to the Sarawak Boma operation centre, preliminary investigations revealed that the fire occurred around 3am that day.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. — DayakDaily
