27yo man sentenced to 11 months’ jail for keeping stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max, disposal of stolen watch

KUCHING, April 18: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a 27-year-old man to a total jail term of 11 months for retaining a stolen iPhone and dishonestly disposing off a stolen watch.

Mohd Khairul Abdullah, 27, pleaded guilty to two charges before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.


The accused was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code with voluntarily disposing of a Bonia watch belonging to a 32-year-old man, at a house in Kampung Tupong Tengah, at about 11.30am on September 4, 2021. He was sentenced to a jail term of 6 months under this charge.

The accused was also charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code with retaining a stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max belonging to a 22-year-old man, at a carpark near King Centre, at about 5.35pm on December 24, 2022. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to 5 months’ imprisonment.

The magistrate ordered both jail terms to run concurrently. Therefore, the accused only needs to serve 6 months in jail.

According to the brief facts of the case, both victims’ houses were broken into by an unknown individual in separate incidents, and valuable goods were stolen.

The first police report was lodged on August 29, 2021 where the 32-year-old victim reported that her house in Jalan Hashim had been broken into and a Huawei smartphone and a watch were reported missing.

The second police report was lodged on December 21, 2022 where the 22-year-old victim reported that two of his smartphones which were placed near his bedroom window were missing.

Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
